Obsidian Entertainment, known for its role-playing games, is prepping for a big reveal of its latest project, Avowed, this June. The studio upgraded the game to the latest Unreal Engine 5.3; a shift made smoother with help from The Coalition, which is behind the Gears of War series. According to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, Xbox's tech teams, alongside The Coalition, supported Obsidian in adopting Unreal Engine 5.3. However, the specific enhancements and capabilities this engine version provides to Avowed remain undisclosed.
The Coalition itself has been relatively quiet on releasing its own titles, with its last major game, Gears 5, launching in September 2019 and followed by the Hivebusters DLC in 2020. Lately, the studio has engaged in several undisclosed projects amid speculation that two have been abandoned. It's thought that they are collaborating with other studios while also working on the upcoming Gears installment, which is expected to be revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase.
Meanwhile, Avowed is on track for a Fall 2024 release, initially captivating audiences with a gameplay showcase in January. Set to launch on PC and the Xbox Series X/S platforms, the ambitious RPG is aiming for a November 2024 launch.
