As Resident Evil Village celebrates its third anniversary, the buzz around its highly anticipated follow-up, Resident Evil 9, continues to mount. Rumors and leaks surfacing more frequently make fans eager for news about the upcoming game. Despite the increasing anticipation, there have been mixed messages about the game’s reveal date, and it now appears that the wait might extend longer than initially thought.
Resident Evil authority, Dusk Golem, has been central to these contradictory reports. Earlier in the year, he mentioned that the reveal and release of Resident Evil 9 were postponed, only to reverse his statement shortly after, suggesting a May announcement and a January release were on the cards.
However, Dusk Golem has changed his stance once again. In a recent tweet, he indicated that Resident Evil 9 has faced another internal setback. According to his latest update, the game will not be announced this summer, and Capcom has decided to delay its launch until late 2025 or possibly into 2026.
The anticipated sequel is said to have the longest development cycle in the series' history, with its creation commencing as early as 2018. It's also reported to have the largest budget ever allocated for a single installment in the series.
In addition to updates on Resident Evil 9, Dusk Golem also mentioned that Capcom is working on remaking Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil – Code: Veronica. Despite popular speculation, he clarified that no current plans exist to remake Resident Evil 5 or the original Resident Evil.
